The Building a Healthy Temple Program (BHT) is offered through the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and aims to make available free programming dedicated to obesity-related chronic disease prevention to partnering churches throughout San Antonio. BHT has partnered with San Antonio Metropolitan Health District (Metro Health) to offer diabetes self-management education to individuals diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus in faith-based communities. The Building a Healthy Temple Diabetes Self-Management Support Program (BHT DSMS), an extension of BHT, is a research program that incorporates the 6 week Stanford Diabetes Self-Management Program plus additional health education materials (DSMP+). The program is funded through the American Diabetes Association.
